The head of Iran’s Food and Drug Administration announced that in the early hours of Tuesday, following several missiles striking the “Tofigh Daru” industrial complex, the production units and research and development sections of the pharmaceutical factory were completely destroyed.
Mehdi Pir-Salehi, Deputy Minister of Health and head of the Food and Drug Administration, explained that at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the Tofigh Daru pharmaceutical active ingredient manufacturing plant was directly hit by several missiles.ppPir-Salehi stated: “This facility was one of the most important producers of active pharmaceutical ingredients for hospital medications and drugs used in operating rooms. The missile strikes resulted in the complete destruction of the factory’s production units and R&D departments.”Pir-Salehi added that since the beginning of the war by the United States and the Zionist regime, approximately 24 pharmaceutical factories, medical equipment manufacturers, and distribution companies have suffered full or partial damage. Among these, several key facilities that produced essential active ingredients have also been damaged.Regarding the products of the destroyed unit, he explained: “Finished drugs were not manufactured at this factory, but active ingredients for various hospital medications and some anti-cancer drugs were produced there, playing a crucial role in the country’s supply chain.”Pir-Salehi concluded that under international humanitarian law and conventions related to the protection of critical health infrastructure, attacks on medical facilities, pharmaceutical centers, and suppliers of vital items are explicitly prohibited in international documents and are legally actionable.
